Tumbling Media From AFI
- AFI PRE-FORMED CERAMIC MEDIA is available in the following shapes
Straight Triangles Uniform and effective finishing action. Retains its basic shape throughout usage. Most effective on flat surfaces where they provide a maximum amount of surface contact. Provide better penetration into corners. Angle Cut Triangle 22° Uniform and effective finishing action. Retains its basic shape throughout usage. Most effective on flat surfaces where they provide a maximum amount of surface contact. Provide better penetration into corners. Angle Cut Triangle 45° Sharper angle for better penetration into remote areas. Elongated shape gives better flowing action over the parts during processing. Angle Cut Ellipse 22° Combines the finishing action of a flat shape with the flowing action of a cylindrical shape. Especially effective on concave surfaces. Has anit-wedging characteristics that reduce or eliminate lodging problems. Angle Cut Tristar 22° Have the basic capabilities of a triangle, along with sharp points for reaching into remote areas. A universal application media that can deburr hard to get at areas, such as gear teeth, slots or sharp corners. Angle Cut Cylinder 22° Improve finishing efficiency and results. Provides a flowing action maximizing results. Best for use on concave surfaces, rounded areas and holes. A durable shape for use on a wide variety of parts. Angle Cut Cylinder 45° Reach recesses, holes and remote crevices with even greater penetration than the 22° angle cut cylinders. Uniform shape is maintained throughout usage. Tri-Cyls Suitable for use on a wide variety of surfaces. Cylindrical surface that mates well with concave surfaces, plus two flat surfaces that perform well on convex surfaces. Combine strong points of triangles and cylinders, to penetrate into corners, slots and angles. Spheres Smooth rolling action enabling them to easily roll around and through parts to produce cleaning and blending action. Will not nick or scratch parts. Give good contact in rounded areas. Microbrite Very hard and dense media. For burnishing and polishing. Excellent flowing action. Must be broken in to achieve best results.

- AFI STANDARD COMPOSITIONS
Composition Code Description AX-44 Very hard, long lasting composition used for light deburring and fine finishing. AX-44 is used quite successfully in vibrators, as it retains its sharp edges and points for a long time. It gives parts a clean and bright finish. Also, AX-44 can be used as a carrier for abrasive compounds. AX-90 Highly versatile composition having good cutting action and long wear life. Available in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, AX-90 will work in a wide variety of deburring, de-flashing and radiusing applications. It will also do an excellent burnishing job and can be used in all types of equipment. AX-65 Fast cutting composition fitting between AX-90 and the ultra-fast cutting compositions. It provides a higher rate of metal removal than AX-90, with only a slightly higher media loss. AX-65 is recommended for obtaining short time cycles on medium and heavy burrs and will leave parts with a clean semi-matte finish and gives excellent results in vibratory finishing equipment. AH-41 The most aggressive cutting media available. It gives great amounts of cutdown in short time cycles and still retains good wear characteristics. AH-41 leaves parts with a matte finish, but with proper compounding, the parts will be clean and free of oxide impregnation. It is recommended for all heavy deburring operations. - AFI SPECIALTY COMPOSITIONS
Composition Code Description C Silicon carbide based composition containing no aluminum oxide. It combines a medium cutting action with long life and is recommended for parts having no oxide impregnation, especially where parts are welded, brazed or soldered. Composition C media produces a clean finish on all parts. CS-46 Fast cutting composition that is silicon carbide based and contains no aluminum oxide. It is recommended for parts having no oxide impregnation, especially where parts are welded, brazed or soldered. Composition CS-46 gives parts a matte finish. SJ Available in spherical shapes only. It has an aggressive cutting action and is good for general to heavy deburring, producing short time cycles. - AFI HIGH DENSITY COMPOSITIONS
Composition Code Description N Non-abrasive, high density media used for burnishing and brightening metal parts. It is very long lasting but requires a break-in period to develop best finishes. Composition N is good for chemically accelerated processes. KP-100 Slotting in between N media and the WA-2 and provides a light cutting action with a long life. While not as dense as the N media, it has the highest specific gravity of all the rest of the compositions. Composed of special ingredients for producing smooth finishes, KP-100 is very clean cutting and long lasting. It is an excellent media for high energy machinery. WA-2 Specifically developed to provide a good cutting action and a long wear life in high energy equipment. It is also very effective in standard vibratory finishing machines. WA-2 is high density media that is composed of bauxite and high quality ceramic bonding clays. It will develop excellent finishes, with a smooth bright surface on all types of metal parts, except aluminum. The high density gives it better efficiency than standard density medias. H-33 General purpose high density composition having good wear life. H-33 is a very durable and fracture resistant composition able to stand up to pressures generated in large vibrators and high energy equipment. The greater weight per cubic foot of the high density composition allows faster radius and deburring of parts than standard compositions. SP-3 Combines the fast cutting qualities of AX-65 with the high density fracture resistance of H-33. Its greater weight gives it an excellent cutting force, increasing with load size. SP-3 is able to develop low micro finishes on hard metal parts. F-36 Fastest cutting of the high density compositions and combines short time cycle with low micro finishes.
